THE COMPANY
In Montacuto, a small hamlet in the municipality of Ancona, less than a kilometre from the sea, as the crow flies, are the vineyards of the Moroder Estate in Montacuto. A total of 32 hectares of vineyards extend over a narrow strip of hilly land overlooking the sea in the heart of Mount Conero Nature Reserve. The farm has been owned by the Moroder family since the eighteenth century, when an enterprising forefather moved to Ancona from the Val Gardena and built his fortune by trading fabrics and handmade wooden items. He subsequently decided to transform the old farm and since then agriculture has been the family’s main occupation. At the beginning of the 1980s, Serenella and Alessandro Moroder decided to introduce new cultivation methods and transformed the estate, introducing highly specialised vines that exploited the area’s already strong vocation to the cultivation of black grapes.

PRODUCTION
The vineyards are all situated within the Monte Conero Nature Reserve and for this reason neither pesticides nor synthesis chemical products are used on the farm, in keeping with cultivation methods with a low environmental impact. This is a transition period for the farm before it becomes fully organic in the near future.
The farm has a mini-weather station that checks the temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure and rainfall (that is low in this area), making it possible to intervene based on real needs.

Careful selection of the grapes on the vine, a new production method, modernisation of the wine cellar, in particular the barrel-storage cellar, and technical know-how, ably supported by the consultancy of the wine-making expert Franco Bernabei, are the reason for the company’s twenty-year success on both the Italian and overseas wine scene.

Below the wine cellar there is a cave that dates back to the eighteenth century and was dug out of the underlying clay. It was originally used as an ice-house and where snow with hay pressed into it was once used to create a room for preserving food, wine is now aged in oak barriques in ideal temperature and humidity conditions.

MORODER PRODUCTS

ROSSO CONERO
rosso conero doc
This is a wine in which it is possible to taste the grape and even recognise the vine. It is a celebration of “typicality” in which the taste of the wood barrels delightfully supports the flavour and bouquet.

PROPERTIES
Grape variety: 100% Montepulciano.
Yield per hectare: this is kept low, about 80 quintals, thanks to short pruning and cutting back in the summer.
Wine-making process: seven to ten days maceration on the skins and slow fermentation lasting about thirty days. Ageing for fifteen months in French and Slavonian oak barrels. Light filtering and stabilization before bottling.
Organoleptic characteristics: deep, bright red colour and a nose that recalls ripe fruit and marasca and sour cherries. Green walnut peel is also recognisable. The final impression leaves a hint of liquorice, cinnamon and plum. The palate is full-bodied yet restrained, strong and smooth. It has a pleasant aftertaste of bitter almonds.

DORICO
rosso conero doc riserva
Meticulous work on the vine, a rigid selection process of the best Montepulciano grapes from the various vineyards and the skilful use of wood give this fine reserve wine a marked personality. It is a strong, full-bodied wine and even after several years continues to improve, surprising even the most demanding palates. It is an intense, elegant wine that only fully reveals its secrets after some time.

PROPERTIES
Grape variety: 100% Montepulciano from the Marche. The grapes are carefully selected from all the estate’s vineyards.
Yield per hectare: about 60-70 quintals, a result obtained thanks to short pruning and cutting back during summer.
Wine-making process: maceration for twenty days with the skins at a controlled temperature, slow fermentation for about thirty days. The wine is aged for thirty months, partly in French and Slavonian oak tonneaux and partly in barrels made from various woods from various places of origin. The wine is assembled, clarified and stabilized before bottling. This is followed by further ageing in the bottle for at least twelve months.
Reserve Dorico wine is only bottled from wine produced in the best vintages when the quality is higher than average.
Organoleptic characteristics: a bright, ruby red colour that tends towards burgundy as it ages. The nose is full and intensely complex and recalls ripe fruit, plums, marasca cherries, fruits of the forest, tobacco, natural vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon. The final impression is a hint of spice, pepper and leather. It is dry, mellow and full-bodied with smooth, balanced tannins.

ROSA di MONTACUTO

rosato igt
This wine is made exclusively from black grapes. It has the typical personality and characteristics of a rosé wine, with a hint of red fruits and charming floral notes due to the use of the Alicante Nero grape variety. It has body and strength, which make it the ideal accompaniment to flavoursome local dishes (thanks to the Montepulciano grape).

PROPERTIES
Grape varieties: Montepulciano 40%, Alicante Nero 30%, Sangiovese 30%.
Wine-making process: the grapes are harvested slightly earlier and the wine is produced using rosé fermentation; in other words the must is only in contact with the skins for a few hours. Careful cleaning of the must and fermentation at 18-20°C approximately is followed by the standard wine-cellar operations and sterile cold bottling.
Organoleptic characteristics: fuchsia pink with a hint of bright purple. It has a slender, lingering bouquet and the nose recalls fresh fruit and cherry blossom, with a hint of dog rose emerging as the final impression. The wine is dry and fresh to taste, harmonious and elegant yet strong, with a delicate hint of bitterness.

ORO
moscato passito
This is a raisin wine produced by blending Muscat 60%, Malvasia 20% and golden Trebbiano 20% grape varieties and subsequently fermenting in oak kegs, where the wine is left to age for two years. It is a sweet wine with a strong structure and a particularly intense bouquet of honey and orange.
